MY 73 VOLKSWAGEN PAGE
Here's our 1973 Type 181 VW Thing. We are selling after enjoying it for many years. If you read on, you'll see more pics, and learn some history of this car. Also, I've listed some of the improvements I've made, and the extra parts that come with the car.
I purchased the "Command Car" in April of 1994. Since that time, I've driven it weekly. It's been VERY reliable, and continues to be a good car. It's been a easy starter, and has only been towed once since 94, for a minor ignition problem. As the pics show, it's got some rust, and minor dents. Also, it has paint over the original paint. It has the original motor, with "doghouse" fan. The engine was rebuilt just before I obtained the car, and has about 6k on the rebuild. Improvements added in the past 2 years, include a new canvas top, and Cooper ATV tires. At the time the top was added, I also had the front seats rebuilt, and new vinyl upholstery, by JBugs, added. It also has the factory gas heater.
Here's a look at the new seats. I also purchased new original-style rubber mats, which I just installed this spring. The mats, upholstery and other OEM parts came from the Thing Shop in Phoenix. I have a new-old stock fender for the front. Other goodies include the vinyl for the back seats, and fender beading for the entire car. Other extras include a owner's manaul, and a complete parts book with all parts numbers, and illustrations. We are asking $3200 OBO for the Thing.
